Spaying and neutering your pet is one of the most important things you can do as a responsible pet owner. All too often we are brought the “neighborhood” kittens or the puppies that are an “accident” and are no longer wanted.

Valley Oak SPCA was built on the idea of providing affordable spay and neuter surgeries so families on a budget could afford to have their pets altered.

Spaying and neutering your pet can help them stay healthier, keep them from roaming, and can be performed on young animals. Pets do not have to have “one litter.” Oftentimes people will allow a pet to reproduce because they love their pet so much they want an offspring. Animals are just as individual as people; however, breeds may have certain characteristics, but dispositions are different from one animal to the next.

FERAL CATS

Feral cats are offspring of stray and abandoned pet cats or other feral cats who are not spayed or neutered. They are un-owned, un-socialized and are typically too fearful and too wild to be handled. Many have caretakers who will provide food and water but many don’t take the next step to prevent unwanted kittens from being born. Spaying and neutering is vital. If you care for a feral cat colony, please participate in TNR: Trap-Neuter-Return. Maintaining a healthy, stable colony will mean less problems and fewer complaints in the future. Valley Oak SPCA has cat traps available for rent, $50 deposit/$15 per week. Call 651-1111 for rental information and availability. For more information on feral cats, please call Kelly Austin at 741-1121. Call our Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic at 741-0492 to schedule a surgical appointment.
