PLEASE READ PRIOR TO FILLING OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION:

Adopting a companion animal is a rewarding opportunity! But one that requires many of the same responsibilities as having a child.

Before considering adoption it's important to bear in mind that many of our animals are strays and have unknown backgrounds. These animals (as well as any animal) will require a great deal of compassion and patience as they are adjusting to their new life in a loving home. Adopting a companion animal is a lifelong commitment--many dogs can live 10-15 years and a cat can easily live late into its teens. The average cost of caring for a dog or cat can range anywhere from $200-$500 each year, not including unforeseen emergencies. Before proceeding, ask yourself if you are physically and financially able to commit to a lifetime of care for this animal.

In order to ensure a good match between you, your family and the companion animal you are considering we must have the following questions answered truthfully and in full. Please keep in mind that the Valley Oak SPCA reserves the right to deny an adoption if we feel that it is not in the best interest of either you, your family or the companion animal which is being considered in this application.

Get Acrobat Reader - Click hereIf you have identified a companion animal that you would like to adopt, you may download an adoption application here in  Adobe Acrobat format. In order to view and print a file in Acrobat format, you will need to download the free Acrobat Reader program if you do not already have it installed.

The Perfect Match

Looking for a certain size, breed/breed mix of dog or cat to adopt?  Have you been to the shelter, the Mall Adoption Center and PetSmart (cats & kittens) and couldn't find the companion animal of your dreams? Then fill out a Companion Request Application in Adobe Acrobat format) and we'll place it in our Companion Request Book. Your request will be kept on file and we'll call you when we think we have the dog or cat you're looking for!

Dogs and cats finish their stray time and become available for adoption on a daily basis, so if you don't see one you want on a Monday visit to the shelter, that special someone could be here waiting for you days or even weeks later. So keep checking!

If you are unable to print the application here at the website, the application is available at the shelter and Mall Adoption Center. You can also call 651-1111 to have one faxed to you. Complete the form and bring it in or mail to "Companion Request," Valley Oak SPCA, 29016 Hwy 99, Visalia, CA 93277.  We'll do our best to make a perfect match!
